Lenacay at Village Underground
Overview
Lenacay is the brainchild of two members of the now disbanded Ojos de Brujo, the hip hop flamenco innovators from Barcelona. Led by Ojos founder members Ramon Giménez ‘El Brujo’ and DJ Panko ‘El Mago’, Lenacay seamlessly weaves traditional flamenco music and dance into the group's unstoppable passion for musical experimentation, picking up where Ojos de Brujo left off. The band draw from a wide palette of musical influences, and Lenacay reflects this, with palos of flamenco including bulerias, tangos, rumbas and soleas with influences from Balkan, Latin and Indian music and club rhythms like dubstep and drum & bass. Bailalora Carol Morgado utilizes both old and new styles of flamenco with contemporary dance, deftly highlighting not only flamenco’s traditional roots, but also how its continuing ability to transform and evolve still speaks to us today. The show also features Alan de Sousa, who combines cajon flamenco with drums to create an acoustic perfectly suited to Lenacay’s setting, in Village Underground, one of London’s great industrial spaces.
