Reading: Rock and Doris and Elizabeth at Hampstead Theatre
Overview
Terrence Higgins Trust is delighted to present a unique and intimate stage reading of Rock and Doris and Elizabeth, the latest Hollywood play by Tracy-Ann Oberman. Starring Tracy-Ann Oberman, Frances Barber, Jonathan Hyde and James Lance, this radio play was first broadcast on Radio 4. The original cast has reunited for this special Terrence Higgins Trust fundraising benefit at Hampstead Theatre. The play imagines the days preceding Rock Hudson’s astonishing appearance on Doris Day’s little-known cable TV show in 1985. At the time Rock’s obvious ill health created a media frenzy of speculation about the nature of his illness, which was later confirmed as being AIDS-related. Tracy-Ann wrote the play after being fascinated by Hudson’s motives.
