Dan Johnson: Live Painting and Stenciling in Notting Hill at Debut Contemporary
Overview
Dan Johnson will be exhibiting original hand-cut stencils that he has used to create his fascinating mixed media art; ( and may or may not have appeared on a street near you). The idea to use stencils themselves as art to exhibit came from the internationally renowned curator Sara Raza, who met Dan at Debut Contemporary while curating the olympics exhibition there, in which Dan Johnson had a piece. Under the tag t[error]ist? Dan Johnson has been using stencils in his work for 15 years and has exhibited with the likes of Banksy, Jimmy Cauty and Anthony Micallef. Dan Johnson graduated in illustration from Liverpool in 1993. He lives in East Sussex with his wife and four children. His work reflects a lifelong fascination with theology, nature and pop culture; the power of images, duality and belief within the human psyche. This exhibition sees the stencil take centre stage, a return to his street art roots. Alongside the display Dan will be cutting stencils live and creating a unique artwork of spray paint and collage elements on the gallery window.
