West Side Story at Compass Theatre and Arts Centre

West Side Story derives from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The moving story of two star-cross'd lovers brilliantly transported to New York City where hostilities between teen gangs The Jets and The Sharks replace the warring Montegue and Capulet clans of the original. A tremendous score by Leonard Bernstein and sharp as a switchblade lyrics by Stephen Sondheim still stir the emotions thirty-odd years after this stunning musical was first released.
