The former lead vocalist and flautist for hit 1970s group Genesis performs songs from his latest album Scratch My Back. In recent years Gabriel has become more focused on producing and promoting world music as well as developing new musical distribution methods. During his career he has collected several music awards including Grammies and Golden Globes and more recently the 2009 Polar Music Award. His first hit came with his acclaimed single Solsbury Hill which was an autobiographical piece that described his experiences of leaving Genesis. Further hits in the 1980s such as Sledgehammer began to compete with the commercial success of Genesis songs as his loyal fans followed his career intently. In the early 1990s Gabriel became more actively involved in humanitarian and political causes. In 1992 he co-founded WITNESS; a non-profit group that supports locally-based organisations worldwide and trains them to use video and the internet software in the documentation of human rights. Continuing on a global mission, in 2008 he was awarded Amnesty International's Ambassador Of Conscience Award. However, when he is not off saving the world he does find time to work on his music and the voice that defined the sound of Genesis is flying solo on the stages of the UK once more. Old and young alike should flock to witness his distinctive voice and performance style.
