Leeds-born Alan Bennett adapts Kenneth Grahame's much loved family riverbank classic for the stage. Following the adventures of Mole, Ratty, steadfast Badger and the born-to-drive Toad this delightful family Christmas show moves from the charming tranquillity of Ratty's riverbank to the spectacular chaos of Toad Hall. When Mole happens upon Ratty's riverbank a wonderful friendship blooms. Taking the bemused and inquisitive Moley under his wing, Rat introduces him to the world above ground; from the delights of the river to the more sinister Wild Wood, from the dependable Badger to the eccentricities of Mr. Toad and Toad Hall. All seems peaceful until Toad begins to cause havoc in his mechanical motor car, stirring up trouble for the River Bankers. Mole, Ratty and Badger all agree that he needs to be taken in hand, but Toad, being Toad, will not give up his marvellous machines without a fight. Following its critically acclaimed staging in 2003 Ian Brown re-imagines his production of The Wind in the Willows for 2012/2013.
