The 1912 Show at BFI Southbank
Overview
In this selection from 1912’s film output you’ll be looking at world events as well at what was going on in British cinema at the time. The year 1912 was marked by industrial unrest in Britain and other countries, which you’ll see in newsreels and a newly restored drama 'The Strike' from Lois Weber in the US. Of course the news was dominated by Scott’s ill-fated Antarctic expedition and the sinking of RMS Titanic; there were also terrible floods in Norwich. In the film world you see the rise of the Western, the high-profile literary adaptation and the launch of the named comedian.
