Dance Hall at BFI Southbank
Overview
After a dull day at the factory, a group of four young women spend their evenings at the Chiswick Palais in pursuit of some glamour and fun. Relationships are formed and broken to the energetic beat of the dance band, the drudgery of work and home forgotten. Ealing rarely foregrounded female characters, but the input of writer Diana Morgan means the film gets into the hearts and minds of the women, optimistically searching for their identity within a post-war world.
