Lunchtime Concert: Ensemble Tramontana at St. Martin-in-the-Fields
Overview
Ensemble Tramontana recreate the music of Medieval and Renaissance Europe through exploring its historical and social context. Tramontana was the name of the Pole Star, a crucial navigation aid of the time; it is also a northern wind that sweeps through Europe and is thought to have a powerful effect on the psyche. Like the tramontana wind, the music we perform has travelled across Europe, stirring the emotions. With this music, we navigate the rich cultural connections of the era to design varied and informative programmes, and experiment with combining pieces and blending timbres to evoke the spirit of the times.
