Barbara at BFI Southbank

Overview
Set in East Germany in 1980, Dr Barbara Wolff has just been transferred from a large East Berlin hospital to a provincial back-water clinic, in punishment for having requested an exit visa to the west. While she reluctantly settles into her new job, her west German lover is plotting her escape via the Baltic sea. Even though she refuses to connect emotionally with her new colleagues, her boss Andre seems to be sympathetic and supportive. But Barbara is still getting intrusive visits from the Stasi, and Andre could be part of their surveillance network.
