Manet: Portraying Life at Royal Academy of Arts
Overview
The first ever retrospective devoted to the portraiture of 19th century artist Edouard Manet, this new exhibition at the Royal Academy spans an entire career, bringing together works from across Europe, Asia and the USA. Constituting around half of his artistic output, Manet painted his family, friends and the literary, political and artistic figures of his day, but surprisingly, this area of his work has never been explored in exhibition form before. The RA aims to correct this glaring oversight, with over 50 works detailing the key pictures and sitters of this forward thinking painting pioneer.
