Clay Sinclair at Woolff Gallery
Overview
Clay Sinclair paints directly onto Perspex or Plexiglass, giving his work of bright and strongly contrasting colours a luminous appearance. Often starting from pastiches of classic works, he incorporates provocative textual elements that use puns, flip old sayings on their head or offer unexpected answers to rhetorical questions in order to challenge perceived orthodoxies. In other work - such as the blue series on display in this exhibition - Sinclair makes heavy use of masking and scalpel work to form dense areas of vivid, alternating colour.
