Playing Cards 1: SPADES at Roundhouse
Overview
Playing Cards 1: SPADES is the new production from Robert Lepage, and the first in a planned series of four plays, each shaped around a suit in a deck of cards. This first part explores the theme of war, and is set in the desert city of Las Vegas at the onset of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The production was initiated by in-the-round artistic venues across the world, located in the UK, Sweden, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands. Lepage is one of the most influential forces in theatre, a director who has done everything from masterminding huge productions for Cirque du Soleil and Peter Gabriel to devising seminal one-man classics. True to Lepage’s rich artistic legacy, 'SPADES' makes brilliant use of his trademark theatrical wizardry and has been created exclusively for presentation in the round within the Roundhouse’s stunning main space.
