21st Century Liszt at RCM: Royal College of Music
Overview
For his seminal collections of piano works entitled 'Années de pèlerinage (Years of Pilgrimage)', Franz Liszt – an almost archetypally 19th-century Romantic figure – took inspiration from the world around him: art, people and places, the natural world, and his own feelings. Now RCM piano professor Andrew Zolinsky and composition professor Jonathan Cole have set RCM composers the challenge of coming up with a 21st-century version. What can the modern world offer up for inspiration, and where might a 21st-century pilgrimage take us? This unique collaborative project promises to deliver an exciting new sequence of piano works that will let us re-examine the world we live in with new eyes and ears.
