Overview

Aiming to provide an open route from arts education to the professional art sector, New Contemporaries is an exhibition of work by current students and recent graduates from British Art Schools, selected without knowledge of the artist's details or background. This year's selectors Cullinan Richards, Nairy Baghramian, and Rosalind Nashashibi have sifted through over 1,200 submissions, to settle on a final selection of works spanning a range of mediums, with painting finding itself back at the centre of the show. Sculpture, performance, photography and video works all feature too, and artistic concerns range from the virtualisation of space, taboo subjects, theatricality, language, and the over-proliferation of imagery.
