The Big Lebowski at Prince Charles Cinema
Overview
The Coen Brothers’ classic tale of extortion, double-crossing, sex, bowling and White Russian cocktails. Loosely based on the structure of Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep, the film revolves around shaggy-haired slacker Jeff ‘The Dude’ Lebowski, who finds himself a victim of mistaken identity when two thugs break into his apartment, believing him to be Jeff Lebowski, a Pasadena millionaire. When the thugs urinate on The Dude’s beloved rug, he pays a visit to his wealthy namesake in the hope of receiving compensation for this grave injustice. Along with his bowling buddy, Vietnam War vet and recently converted orthodox Jew, Walter, The Dude soon becomes embroiled in a story involving a severed toe, a porn baron and a Kraftwerk-esque band of German nihilists. With outstanding performances from a cast of cult actors and a witty script filled with enough clever dialogue to satisfy even the biggest Coen Brothers fanatic, this cult classic is definitely one to catch on the big screen.
