Richard Alston Dance Company: Buzzing Round the Hunnisucle, Madcap, The Devil in the Detail at New Wimbledon Theatre
Overview
Richard Alston Dance Company is delighted to be presenting the world premiere of Buzzing Round the Hunnisucle at the New Wimbledon Theatre. This brand new commission by the world renowned Columbia Foundation, is inspired by Alston’s long held fascination with the music of Jo Kondo. In Buzzing Round the Hunnisucle, Alston celebrates the contrasting nature of two Jo Kondo compositions, he combines the rapid light rhythms of Isthmus with the calm-hushed chords of Hunnisucle in a dance of nimble and breathtaking precision. In his latest work for the company, Martin Lawrance has created Madcap; a startlingly original new choreography with the music of New York band, Bang on a Can All-Stars. Alston’s effervescent The Devil in the Detail, inspired by the music of ‘King of Ragtime’ Scott Joplin, will close the bill in style. Irresistible classics such as Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer are blended with the lightness and finesse of Alston’s choreography.
