Dig for Victory, Run for Cover! a Film-Based Event on WW2 History for Pupils at KS2 at BFI Southbank
Overview
This event is offered as support for Key Stage 2 History, and focuses on life on the Home Front in the UK during World War 2. The interactive session will use films from the BFI National Archive, such as newsreels and government information films, depicting everyday life for adults and children during the war. Subjects such as: ‘growing your own’, ‘digging for victory’, rationing and evacuation will be covered. A former evacuee will also be present to talk to pupils and take questions from them. Finally, there will be an introduced screening of the TV feature Goodnight Mr Tom, a moving story about an evacuee during the Blitz (US/UK 1999. Dir Jack Gold, 108mins).
