This INSET offers a hands-on introduction to the techniques and uses of stop motion animation filmmaking with children. The day will begin with an overview of how animation can be used in the classroom and suggest ways to use it to complement areas of the national curriculum to which it is ideally suited: literacy, history, geography, science and MFL in particular. Short animated films and clips will be screened to analyse how different techniques of stop motion animation achieve their effects. The afternoon will be devoted to teachers making their own short animated film using their chosen technique: either claymation or paper cut-outs and will include a look at editing techniques and software. All software used is PC compatible.
