Stories on Screen: A Literacy Event for Pupils at KS2 at BFI Southbank
Overview
This lively, interactive session is an introduction to studying film for Key Stage 2 pupils. Children explore short films taken from the Story Shorts and the Story Shorts 2 resources and use these to discuss key themes such as story structure, character and setting. Children will also be introduced to the important moving image concepts of camera and sound and how these contribute to the meaning of a film. The session will provide pupils with a framework for looking at film which can be applied to both moving image and written texts. Pupils are encouraged to become active viewers. It is an ideal springboard for literacy activities and activities supporting the wider curriculum, based on the Story Shorts DVD resources.
