3D Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins - King's Cross
Overview
3D Fashion Design is suitable for anyone wanting a very free and open fashion design course with textural experimentation at its hub. It will be of particular benefit for both students and designers at any level, who would like to produce work that will make their portfolios stand out from those of their contemporaries, portfolios which will demonstrate conceptual and innovative ways of working. The emphasis here is on exploring your own individual identity. You will be given a creative brief and asked to bring in inspirational images which you will then translate into three-dimensional fabric treatments, ahead of the design stage. Together with the tutor you will then look at integral surface texture achieved through your own experimentation. This could take many forms including plaiting, twisting, ruching, folding, pintucking, distressing, cutwork, appliqueing, layering, bonding, studding, coating surfaces, playing with juxtaposed transparencies - the possibilities are endless! You will then use you three-dimensional samples within fashion design, both literally as all-over fabrics or simply to get the creative juices flowing! Please note that this course works with textural experimentation using existing fabrics and not the more traditional textiles disciplines of print, weave and knit.
