Moscow Ballet La Classique: Coppelia at Epsom Playhouse
Overview
Coppélia is a classical ballet in three acts, originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon for the Paris Opéra. It tells the story of eccentric Doctor Coppelius and his clockwork creation, Coppelia. Coppelia, a living doll, captivates Franz - to the despair of his fiance Swanilda. But of course, true love eventually wins the day. Moscow Ballet - La Classique, founded in 1990 and utilising ballet dancers from the leading theatres of the CIS Countries and the Bolshoi, Kirov and Ballet Theatres of Kiev and Odessa, have thrilled ballet lovers throughout the world during hugely successful tours of Egypt, Morocco, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Norway, Israel, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK, and Russia itself. Soloists Nadejda Ivanova, Ekaterina Shalyapina, Andrey Shalin, and Dmitry Smirnov lead this Moscow Ballet production under the direction of Elik Melikov.
