Fairport Convention at The Borderline
Overview
English folk rock - and later electric folk - band Fairport Convention are widely considered the most important single group in the English folk rock movement - a movement that provided a distinctively English identity to rock music and helped awaken much wider interest in traditional music in general. Formed in in 1967, the band has had many line-up changes over the years: past members include legends such as guitarist and vocalist Richard Thompson, singer Sandy Denny and fiddler David Swarbrick. Original lead singer and guitarist Simon Nicol still plays with the band, which first rehearsed in a house called 'Fairport' in Fortis Green, on the floor above Nicol's father's medical practice.
