The Colour of Nature at Natural History Museum and Darwin Centre
Overview
Why and how are there so many colours in the natural world? The Colour of Nature is a practical workshop developed to tie in with biology and physics Key Stage 3 content. Students are encouraged to consider colour - what it is, the different ways it is produced and how it is used as an adaptation in the natural world. Students will be invited to explore the properties of colours from different organisms by getting hands-on with Museum specimens. Using specialist scientific equipment, they will apply the same skills in the workshop as scientists do in the lab and meet a Museum scientist who will reveal some surprising research. Finally, they will be challenged to use a specimen and its colour as a source of inspiration and come up with some exciting real-world applications of their own.
