Chelsea Opera Group: Die Feen at Queen Elizabeth Hall
Overview
In Wagner's rarely performed first opera, the love of a semi-mortal fairy for a human prince triumphantly overcomes all obstacles. The 20-year-old Wagner completed his first opera in 1834, though it was not heard until after his death in 1888. He showed how the German romantic traditions of Weber and Marschner could be re-animated in this romantic tale.
