A class to build an individual fine art practice by exploring painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and contextual studies in a series of structured projects. Students are expected to keep up with current exhibitions in London. Group tutorials help them adopt an independent and experimental approach to work. In the third term of each year they participate in an exhibition. Basic materials included. This course aims to give an introduction to contemporary fine art practice. This is the first stage of a programme intended for those who wish to explore practical fine art disciplines in a structured teaching environment over a sustained period. It is recommended that everyone joining the course has done some drawing and painting courses, for instance 'Drawing 1' and 'Drawing continued', or 'Painting 1' and 'Painting continued' at City Lit. An advisory interview is offered to everyone applying, to make sure the course will suit their needs. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations. Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
