Top Hat at the Aldwych Theatre
Overview
It's time to put on your top hat and brush off your tails: Top Hat is now playing in London!
More than 70 years after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers lit up Hollywood's silver screen with one of the greatest dance musicals of all time, Top Hat is now playing in the West End. Tom Chambers and Charlotte Gooch take the lead roles of Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont made famous by Rogers and Astaire back in 1935.
Chambers and Gooch are joined by Martin Ball and Vivien Parry who play husband and wife Horace and Madge Hardwick, Ricardo Afonso as Alberto Beddini and Stephen Boswell as Horace's valet Bates. Performed by a cast of 31 and accompanied by a live band of 15, this new musical comedy includes Irving Berlin classics from the original movie. A further 10 numbers have been interpolated from Berlin's 1200 strong back catalogue.).
Top Hat has all the elements needed for a great night out in London:
- Irving Berlin's fantastic hit tunes (like Cheek to Cheek and Let’s Face The Music And Dance)
- stunning tap routines
- romantic ballroom dances
- a little bit of Busby Berkeley choreography thrown in for good measure
Top Hat is a giddy, glorious celebration of 1930s song and dance. There are magnificent sets, more than 200 gorgeous costumes and a love story that will set your pulse racing!
