Karate at ISH (International Student House)
Overview
Dynamic Karate Club started in 1988 by Sensei Sid Tadrist with the aim of passing on the art of Shotokan Karate and also for others to learn this art of self-defence. The club welcomes men, women and children from beginners to higher grades. The club runs two separate classes for adults and children, parent are welcome to train with their children if they wish. The students are encouraged to develop speed, power and flexibility which are essential to karate and strive towards perfecting these. What does training involve? Kihon (Basics): Kihon are the basics of karate-do, or the practice of individual techniques singly or in combination. Punching, striking, kicking, and blocking are the fundamental techniques of karate. They must be practiced regularly to build the strong foundation required of Shotokan karate. Kata (Forms): Kata are formal exercises consisting of pre-determined defensive and offensive movements, which are performed in a sequence. One performs these alone against a series of imaginary attacks by several opponents. Kumite (Sparring): Kumite is the training method in which the techniques of karate are safely put into practice. Students train with a partner, and strive to develop strong, committed attacks and powerful defences.
