About

Hear a wide range of classical music in a season of informal concerts with the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and in venues across London.

Each year the BBC Proms host two months of concerts, aiming to bring the finest classical music to as many people as possible at affordable prices and in an informal atmosphere.

From classical favourites to world premieres of contemporary music and family concerts, soloists to orchestras, singers and musicians, the BBC Proms offer a stage for leading artists from across the musical spectrum with a broad programme of music, culminating in the famous Last Night performances.

BBC Proms 2016 Programme

The event returns in 2016 for its 122nd edition with brand new Proms Director David Pickard and plenty to celebrate.

Get in the carnival spirit as the Rio Olympics unfold this summer with music from Latin America, including the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Symphony Orchestra. Mark 400 years since the death of Shakespeare, with performances inspired by the playwright’s work, including Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Hans Abrahamsen’s Let Me Tell You. And celebrate the cello with a series of concerts specially dedicated to the instrument.

A new feature this year, Proms at… takes concerts to four unique and unusual London settings, from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Roundhouse, to the Old Royal Naval College and a large car park in Peckham.

Plus, catch the first Strictly Prom featuring the professional dancers from the television programme, and get the children involved with the return of the popular CBeebies Proms, as well as weekend matinee family concerts.

What is Promming at the Proms?

Proms is short for Promenade Concerts: informal and inexpensive concerts which feature the popular tradition of Promming. Promenaders (Prommers) pay just £6 for a standing ticket in the central Arena or high-up Gallery of the Royal Albert Hall, with up to 1,350 standing places available. More than 500 standing tickets are usually available to buy on the door before each concert.
