Magna Carta 800th Anniversary in London
Celebrate the 800th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta with a series of special events and exhibitions in London.
The 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta will be a commemoration of national and international significance.
London, the only city to be specifically named in the charter, will host a variety of events to mark the anniversary. It was in London's Temple Church where, for a week in January 1215, King John was confronted by barons who demanded a charter. The subsequent document, called Magna Carta, limited the king's powers by law and protected their rights, paving the way for the establishment of constitutional law.
Below are some of the London highlights for this 800th anniversary year.
