Many of London's big museums and galleries regularly hold free events for children. The National Portrait Gallery has a Young People's programme, which includes free workshops and art classes for young people aged 14-21. They also run a series of family events with free activities for younger children.

The Horniman Museum is free and family-friendly. It runs a fantastic programme of free kids' activities every weekend. Each weekend has a different theme, from toys and masks to puppets, animals and Africa.

For a real bargain, don't miss Kids' Week when you can get a free child's ticket to top London shows for every adult paying full price. Organised by The Society of London Theatre, Kids' Week usually takes place over the last two weeks in August.

Keep up to date with the latest events with our What's On section and Kids Love London site.

Kids Travel Free

Kids can benefit from free or discounted travel across London's transport system. Older kids may need a photocard or Oyster photocard to travel free, so make sure that you plan ahead to get the best deal. See the Transport for London website for full information.

Free Attractions for Kids

Many of London's best child-friendly attractions are free to enter, including the Science Museum, the National History Museum and the Museum of Childhood. Visit our Free London page for more ideas.

Children under 16 can also get free entry on HMS Belfast, although there is a charge for adults. There's plenty on board for younger visitors and there are family activities on the last weekend of every month.

Entry to The Courtauld and Embankment Galleries at Somerset House is free for under 18s and under 12s respectively. Somerset House is a magnificent 18th century building that houses important collections of art and treasures. The spectacular fountains in the courtyard provide a fun opportunity for kids to cool down as they run through the 55 jets!
