The journey takes only 35 minutes and the palace is a 2-minute walk across the bridge from the station. The train service passes through Wimbledon station, where the London Underground District Line begins. Hampton Court is in travel zone 6. Bus routes: 111*, 216*, 411*, 451, 461, R68, 416, 513. Riverboat: Riverboats run in the summer from Westminster, Richmond upon Thames and Kingston upon Thames. The journey from Westminster can take up to 4 hours, depending on the tides. Met de auto: The palace is located on the A308 and is well signposted from all the major local roads; drivers should follow the brown tourist attraction road signs. From the M25 take either exit 10 on to the A307 or exit 12 on to the A308. The palace is also accessible via the A3 and then the A309. For a map to help you plan your journey, visit www.multimap.com. June 20 2009 saw a lot of activities at Hampton Court Palace, with actors playing the roles of King HenryVIII and his court.

The day began with a procession of about 50 rowing craft from the Tower of London to the Palace. They took about 5 hours to row the distance and soem photos were taken at Teddington Lock, where the tidal Thames finishes.

In the evening, there were musicians, a fool and fireworks, as well as the King to entertain visitors, or 'his loyal subjects' as King Henry called them.

The King seemed popular, and he compared his happy reign with today's Parliament. He enquired whether his loyal subjects would like to pay more taxes as he had a lot of ducks to house and moats to clean!

A wonderful place to visit

We visited Hampton Court Palace with our two young children. We spent about 5 hours there. There is a dressing room where you can put on a velve robe to get in the spirit of things. While we were there the theme was the wedding of HenryVIII and Kathryn Parr and there was an order of service. We went in HenryVIII's apartments and Mary II's apartments. We went to the Tudor kitchens and had lunch in the Privy Cafe. We 'helped' Kathryn Parr choose her wedding outfit and my young children kept a watchful eye out for Henry VIII! The Young Henry Exhibition was very good, not least for its situation in the Palace, and the Henry's Women exhibition was also very good.

Have always wanted to go and it was tiring wok carrying children, buggies and bags all over the Palace, up and down stairs, but it was worth it. We also did the maze outside of the Palace (this is about L5 per adult for those who haven't bought Palace or Gardens ticket) which the four of us completed in about 2 minutes with no wrong turns. Glad we didn't pay extra for this!

I spent a sunny Saturday afternoon wandering the grounds of Hampton Court. Guests may wander just about anywhere they like on their own schedule and enjoy the history and majesty of this incredible place at their own pace. The gardens alone are worth a visit. Three major garden areas: the Privy Gardens, the Formal Gardens, and a magical place they call "The Wilderness". They also have a hedge maze - so much fun! Just a little anxiety-provoking. This palace has a remarkable chapel, with a vaulted ceiling in royal blue covered with gold leaf stars. It's an inspirational place, with plenty of room for kids to run around and several charming shops and restaurants. Just across the street I had an early dinner in a restaurant on the bank of the Thames where I enjoyed a delicious meal while watching swans drift by. A perfect excursion!

Go on a sunny day, beautiful gardens

Went to Hampton Court with my boyfriend on his birthday last saturday. We're both in our 20s but really enjoyed this day out. Make sure you look out for buy 1 get 1 free offers on entrance, mostly through the train companies as it's quite expensive otherwise. But once in you can join a live tour, following actors dressed up, the day we went it was one of Henry's weddings. You can follow the characters all round the palace, kind of a history lesson/guide. We followed for a bit as it goes on for hours. You can also get a headset which takes you around the rooms, the recordings are quite interesting, bring things to life, and take you to bits of the palce you'd probably otherwise miss. We're not into history that much but enjoyed the recordings, though I think kids would be bored by them.

The high point is the gardens, amazing. The maze is okay, but not as fun as Leeds Castle.

Really the gardens were the highlight, and the size of this place means it feels quite peaceful. I'd say well worth the journey on a sunny day.

A must see!!!!

My husband and I had not orginally planned to visit Hampton Court but we were so very glad that we did! The palace is amazing and has a great creepy feel. It was easy to get to from London and well...
