Canary Wharf Podcast

London's village podcasts have been brought to you by British Airways and Visit London. Helping you make the most of the greatest city in the world.

In this guide, Jim Davis takes you around Canary Wharf, London's mini-Manhattan.

On the Isle of Dogs in London's Docklands, Canary Wharf is one of the world's most successful regeneration projects. Today it is best known for its bold ensemble of skyscrapers housing some of the UK's leading banks and media companies. Its most famous building, the 50-storey One Canada Square is the tallest building in the UK and the 2nd tallest in Europe.

Yet despite the Blitz and modern development, Canary Wharf retains many fascinating reminders of its industrial past. For centuries it was the largest enclosed docks in the world and it played an important part in the British Empire. An excellent place to find out more about its history - and that of London - is the Museum in Docklands.

Jim Davis also finds that amidst Canary Wharf is an excellent place to shop, eat out or relax in a park or terrace. He also finds one of the largest gyms in Europe, discovers the UK's largest selection of fish and investigates how the Isle of Dogs got its name.
