Day Out in East London
Discover East London with this whistle-stop tour that will take you to some of the main attractions as well as lesser-known ones. Start your day on the edge of the City, London's financial district, at Liverpool Street Station.
Spitalfields Market
Exit the station onto Norton Folgate and follow signs for Old Spitalfields Market. This is about a five-minute walk. The indoor market has been around since the time of Charles II and is popular with the fashionistas and artists of East London. As well as a range of up-and-coming designers there are also vintage clothes, vinyl records, furniture and arts and crafts on offer as well as an organic food market. The market is extremely busy on Sundays. However there are a few stalls on other days too.
Dennis Sever's House
From Spitalfields walk back towards Liverpool Street, but at the main road turn back onto Folgate Street. Dennis Sever's house is a short walk on the right hand side. It offers an insight into 18th century London, and you will sense rather than see what life was like - smell the food about to be eaten and see the unmade beds.
Broadgate Circle
Close to Liverpool Street, Corney and Barrow in the Broadgate Circle is a popular wine bar serving a modern European menu. The glass front allows lots of natural light.
From October to April you can skate off your lunch at the Broadgate Ice Rink and Arena. London's oldest outdoor skating rink, it is set against a stunning background of contemporary offices and a selection of modern art exhibited around the square. Once you have perfected your pirouetting skills, hop onto bus 149 or 242 outside Liverpool Street (bus stop H) to the Geffrye Museum on Kingsland Road.
Visit the Geffrye Museum
One of London's most friendly and charming museums, the Geffrye Museum tells the tale of English domestic design from 1600 to the present day. Set in 18th century almshouses there are a series of period rooms containing collections of furniture, paintings and decorative arts, with a walled herb garden and period gardens.

Dinner at Banglatown
Get your bartering hat on and head off for a stroll down Brick Lane, often referred to as Banglatown. This area of London is teeming with Indian restaurants, many of which have promoters outside eager to get you into their establishment. If you are prepared to barter then you may get a free bottle of wine, free poppadums or a percentage off your total bill. Or if Indian food isn't your thing try the Arkansas Café on Commercial Street. A haven for meat-eaters, this American-themed restaurant only uses ingredients from the local market.
Party like a Shoreditch Trendy
If you are eager for a night on the town, then there is no better place to head than Shoreditch, renowned throughout the capital for its hip and trendy bar scene. Head to the Light Bar to tread in Bridget Jones's footsteps or try the Mother Bar at 333, a lighter alternative to the famous club downstairs. They regularly feature live music and DJs, but be warned, this place gets very busy later on!
