Visiting Greenwich is an ideal day out. With its rich history, beautiful architecture and market, it is a real escape from the city's hustle and bustle.
Arrive in Greenwich on the Water
Greenwich is easy to get to by tube or DLR but a more leisurely way to get there is by boat. See London's riverside sights as you travel from Westminster Pier to Greenwich on one of the City Cruises luxury river liners. On arrival you will see the site of the famous Cutty Sark tea clipper. This historic ship has attracted over 15 million visitors but is currently closed for renovation and is due to reopen in spring 2011.
Maritime Greenwich and Greenwich Park
Straight ahead you will see the stunning buildings of Greenwich: the Royal Observatory, the Queen's House and the National Maritime Museum. These are all world class attractions and, best of all, admission is free! The Observatory is the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian. See extensive displays of everything related to time, astronomy and navigation. The National Maritime Museum's galleries give an insight into the history of seafaring. Head to the stunning Queen's House where you can see an impressive display of fine art. This building houses works by the likes of Canaletto and Van der Veldes.
Eat, Shop & Check Out The Market
After enjoying some of Greenwich's finest historical sights and strolling around elegant Greenwich Park, grab a filling lunch at one of the many restaurants in central Greenwich.
Greenwich has streets full of specialist shops, selling everything from second-hand books to antiques, music, vintage fashion and homeware. It's the ideal place to visit if you are looking for something unique. You can check out the eclectic selection any day of the week. If you visit between Thursday and Sunday make sure you don't miss the market. This is renowned for selling high quality antiques and cool second-hand clothing among a variety of interesting pieces.

Out on The Town
After a day of sightseeing and shopping deposit yourself in the North Pole. This bar, on Greenwich High Road, has a restaurant, lounge and a second bar complete with a DJ in the basement. Choose a snack from the modern European menu. Alternatively head to nearby Blackheath, to sample authentic Italian cuisine at acclaimed restaurant Locale.
For live entertainment make your way to Crooms Hill, just off Greenwich High Road. Greenwich Theatre stages high quality musical theatre. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth heading to this converted Victorian music hall. Round the day off with a ground-breaking production before catching the Docklands Light Railway home.
