There are a number of places in London to find access and mobility equipment such as hearing aids, wheelchairs and medical supplies.
Here we list some places that sell, hire and repair a variety of equipment, as well as provide information about independent living aids, medical equipment and suppliers. Most of the companies stock a range of products and some can source items they do not normally carry.
For local advice, contact your local borough disability organisation. More information and lists of suppliers are also available on the following:

Personal Assistants
In April 2003, regulations came into force requiring all local councils to make direct payments to eligible individuals who want to make decisions about how their care is delivered. These allow people with disabilities and long-term health problems to have greater choice and control. As a result, it is increasingly easy to hire a personal assistant (PA) privately.
Hartwig Care provides personal assistants on a short-term and long-term basis. Visit the Hartwig Care website
Independent Living Alternatives (ILA) provides information and support for disabled people in relation to personal assistance. Its services include a support and information service for people who wish to recruit and employ their own PAs.
