Good starting point for London historical overview

I really liked this museum, I was disappointed that about half of it was closed for renovation. Lots of interesting exhibits, the Great Fire was particularly good. Great place for kids.

It is a good museum. There is quite a few item to observe. However, the museum isn't properly organise and the information about specific items isn't sufficient.

Nonetheless, it gives you an indication of the history of the city.

Apart, it is less than 5 minutes walk from St.Paul's Cathedral. Thus, it would ideal to included with a trip to the the cathedral to complete your day.

I was very highly impressed with this museum. It is very well set up, makes good use of its space and the history of London is made very easy to follow as you begin at its beginning (in Roman times with "Londinium") and go through the Victorian and Elizabethan ages, ending in modern times. It's wonderful to follow its progress like that. It was slightly disappointing, however, to see how little attention they paid to the history of the plague in the city as well as the great fire.

Most London visitors know to prepare for all kinds of weather on a trip to the city. Traditionally, rainy, cool weather has been the challenge.

Recently, uncharacteristically hot weather has hit London. Either way, visitors look for poor weather activities.

In good weather or bad, the Museum of London is worth a visit. The subject of the museum is London itself. The history of the city is interestingly displayed here. Musuem exhibits include a decent amount of interactivity that modern audiences expect. This makes the museum especially suitable for families.

Having been to the Museum before myself, I enthusiastically dragged my husband to it for a visit, only to find that it was under renovation. Take a pass on this one til renovations are complete. Most of the Museum is closed off, and many exhibits missing from the cases that are on display. Their website indicates that "some" galleries are closed. Well, it was lots more than "some". At a guess, 75% of the museum was closed off, if memory serves from my first visit.

Having said that, once the full museum does reopen, if it's even better than it was the first time I saw it, it will be a "must do". The Great Fire exhibition is interesting, hopefully they will reinstate more exhibits regarding the Black Death (London must've been a living hell for a whole generation of people....), and the Cheapside Hoard left me awestruck the first time I saw it. The first time I went, I had a ten year old with me, and she was particularly affected by the Blitz experience, so I do hope that's included in the "new" museum. A lot of school groups come here, and that's something they ought to be reminded of.

Renovations are supposed to be complete in "early 2010". I'd verify that on their website.
