Visit to Sherlock's Home
While in London I couldn't resist visiting the Sherlock Holmes museum (at 221B Baker Street of course). The Museum is filled with items from the fictional detective's career as written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Guests are greeted by a real life Watson who is more than happy to answer questions or be in a photo. I also picked up a business card from the famous consulting detective.
Fans of the stories will have fun browsing through the perfectly recreated Victorian house and reviewing "clues" from Sherlock’s most famous cases. Those unfamiliar with the details of the detectives career will not find the museum nearly as interesting.
The Case of the Fictional Detective
Sherlock Holmes--undoubtedly one of the most famous detectives in the world. But he was a fictional character, right? After touring this "museum" in London, visitors almost begin to wonder.
Here is the famous hat, pipe and magnifying glass, along with other Holmes memorabilia, convincingly displayed at a famous address (221b Baker Street). Letters and documents attest to the skillful detective's skillful career. It LOOKS real enough.
The Sherlock Holmes Museum makes an interesting stop in London, especially for detective novel fans and for families with children who have read the Holmes stories. Kids can try on a deerstalker hat, pick up a magnifying glass and utter the inevitable "Elementary, my dear Watson" to their hearts content.
Pricey, For Die Hard Fans Only
A little pricey ay £6 per person for what it was.
Having read some some sherlock I enjoyed it, but friend only knew of him and did not!
A cute house non the less
An unspoilt gem in the heart of London
I visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum yesterday and I have to say that I found it absolutely enchanting.
The museum is set up as Sherlock Holmes house and has 3 floors of displays and exhibits. You can also meet Dr Watson and get a photo opportunity that lets you dress up as Sherlock Holmes himself.
Unlike a lot of the attractions I've visited in London very few of the exhibits were in glass cases which really added to the homely feel. Admittedly some items (such as the waxworks) looked a little outdated but to me that only added to the charm. At £6 per adult I think its well worth a visit!!
As other visitors have said, the museum also has an absolutely amazing gift shop which is also great to spend some time in!
A must see
If you are into Sherlock Holmes this is a place to see and it will be an enjoyable experience. The people who did not genhoy it clealry were not in the spirit of what it is. They do not pertend to be fancy and they are not. However, it is a lot of fun and a memory.
