Great place to spend the day !

Well worth a visit, especially for those who love flea market type markets.

Too much fur!!

The market was fantastic but I was appalled at the amount of real fur being sold and worn. Shame on you!!

I'd always heard that this market was a must-see, but honestly, I don't know why. Maybe I just had a bad first experience, but I was really disappointed. I got there very early on a Saturday morning and followed the herd from Notting Hill Gate tube station. The walk was much longer than I had anticipated, and the entire area was grubby. Much of the market itself was full of pure junk and "made in China" goods. I had to really dig deep to find the true antique shops. I happened into a huge basement antique mall which was overwhelming. Having been a market vendor myself, I was taken aback by the behavior of most of the vendors here. Unapproachable, ill-informed, etc. I decided they weren't getting any of my money. Was hoping to see more artisans, but only a few were scattered about. It got so incredibly crowded that I had to head back. The only thing I really enjoyed was all the pastel-colored facades on the street approaching the market, along with the street performers. All I can say is if you don't like crowds, don't go here on the weekend. Hope you have a better first impression than I did!

Go Early!

Portobello Market was lots of fun! We went 2 weeks ago on a Saturday morning. The best advice I can give is go as early as you can. We got there at 9 and things weren't busy yet but by 11 you could...

Portobello Market was lots of fun! We went 2 weeks ago on a Saturday morning. The best advice I can give is go as early as you can. We got there at 9 and things weren't busy yet but by 11 you could hardly walk and it was hard to buy anything. there are some really interesting antique shops, some pricey but some bargains if you dig. It was alot of fun though and if you take one of those hop on hop off bus tours it is on their stop.

Still authentic! Yes, despite the many tourists, the atmosphere is still typical Portobello Road.

Yes, it is crowded, and yes, there are many tourists. Yes, it is an excellent place to go when visiting London. I have lived in London and made Portobello Road to a regular Saterday-morning trip...

Yes, it is crowded, and yes, there are many tourists. Yes, it is an excellent place to go when visiting London. I have lived in London and made Portobello Road to a regular Saterday-morning trip, often taking visitors. Always a success, excellent atmosphere, fine trade.

Tip: go half way, and have a lunch at Tom's. Great placce by Terence C.
