The Palace tour is definitely worth doing if you are in London during August or September. It is a bit expensive, but still worth it. One tip is to buy advanced tickets. You will be given a time to enter and just show up about 10 min before your time and you will be allowed to enter. Also, you do not have to wait in the long ticket lines.

I didn't take a tour inside of Buckingham Palace, but I did watch the changing of the guards. I got to Buckingham Palace at about 10:55 AM and got a good standing place on the edge of the street. I loved the changing of the guards. They played music and walked in unison. It was one of the coolest things I ever saw. The outside of Buckingham Palace is stunning to look at. Don't forget the camera and the video camera!

It's always fun watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. However, it's pretty ridiculous having to get there early to get a good spot.

Can't miss this English icon especially if it's a 1st trip to London but once you've been too many times, you kinda get over it.

I personally much prefer Windsor Castle

Definitely one of the cooler places I have been to. The palace is very beautiful and there is a lot of history that is well explained with the included audio guide. Downside is that there isn’t really that much to see (I was done in under two hours) and it isn’t really that cheap. There are also no pictures allowed inside.

I strongly suggest that you buy tickets on-line before hand so you skip some of the lines or go really early in the morning. Make sure you check out the big area in front of the palace, good picture spot. Overall, strongly recommended unless you are on a tight budget.

I debated whether to go by as I'm not really into the whole Royals thing. But it was worth going by to see everthing in the area. We did what others recommended below and saw the guards during inspection when they were preparing for the changing down the street. Crowds along the fence are huge. This is a world famous sight that everyone really should go see once.
