misleading and a rip-off
I am appalled that this shoddy exhibition is cynically located to catch out the unwary tourist and indeed Londoners like ourselves. We paid £12 per adult and £8 per child which is extortionate considering the true works of art available in London for free. The shop at the entrance contains numerous posters of the Dali works we all know and love, which lured us into paying to go in, only to find that the exhibition is entirely composed of drawings and illustrations, not a single oil painting or well known work. There are no curators available so you have to guess what it is all supposed to be about, the layout is confusing and seems to be mostly "works of art for sale" initially, followed by a couple of gloomy rooms lined with illustrations but little or no explanations. There are sculptures dotted about, it is not clear who made them. The "Picasso" exhibition downstairs (which the children clamoured to move on to after ten minutes of the ghastly Dali) was even more puzzling - again just a few drawings but nothing any of us could recognise and no explanations to hint at what it was all about. I asked for a feedback form at the end and was given a paper bag to write on. I can imagine where that ended up. Fine to charge outrageous prices but you need to be very clear what you are making people pay for. This exhibition is misleading and if we had known what we were paying for we would not have gone in.
Waste of money
We went to Dali Universe on a whim when we were walking by the London Eye in London. It cost about 6 Pounds and it was a complete waste of money. It's very small and although a few of the works are interesting, the whole "Universe" experience is not worth the coin. Considering the US Dollar is so weak against the Pound right now, you can find other things to spend your money on.
Total rip-off
A friend and I went to visit the Dali Universe today as she loves Dali's work. And to be fare it is a total rip-off. Paying £14.00 for a single entrance it is really expensive. The venue is not really clean and none of Dali's Art Work are present in the venue. I will never recommend the Dali universe to anyone visiting London.
Complete Rip-Off- No original art here
I paid almost $30.00 Canadian to look at a bunch of posters!? There are no notable works of art here. Most, if not all of the 'works' on display are reproductions, prints, and pieces 'inspired' by Dali. There is absolutely nothing of interest to an art lover here. The 'Dali Universe' is a 100 % scam. Why pay money to look at reproductions... of an artists least interesting work? The Picasso section downstairs (which costs extra up front, but anyone can just walk in to) is no better, with little more than a handful of tapestries and ceramics.
I've seen a few of these scams, erm, operations around the Continent. They all promise an opulent extravanganza of mind blowing proportions, a one-of-a-kind collection of masterpieces. And they are filled with nothing more than cheap reproductions, posters advertising past exhibits, and a big sign saying "no refunds'.
If you are in a group and you haven't made up your mind, try sending one of your party ahead to take a look and let them tell you if it's worth it.
Bottom line, if you are an art lover such as myself, you wll feel robbed. If you're new to Dali, you'll wonder what the big deal is. Save your money. In fact save your time- I wouldn't go if it was free.
