Watch exciting wheelchair rugby at the Basketball Arena, one of the last sporting events at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby at London 2012

Be entertained by the frantic wheelchair rugby where skill, speed and aggression make the game a thrilling spectacle.

Played on a basketball court, with a ball similar to a volleyball, wheelchair rugby has mixed teams of four players, each with disability affecting both their arms and legs. The teams compete for just one gold medal.

Similar to wheelchair basketball, competitors are given a classification points score depending on the degree of their disability.

Wheelchair Rugby at the Paralympic Games

Wheelchair rugby became a medal sport at the Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000, with the United States winning the first gold medal – pipping Australia to the post in a hard-fought contest.

In 2004, New Zealand defeated Canada in the final, while at the last Paralympic Games in Beijing, the United States again defeated Australia in another thrilling final.
