Beach Volleyball at London 2012
One of the most recent additions to the Olympic Games, having first been introduced in 1996, Beach Volleyball is a test of stamina, power and technique.
During the London 2012 Olympic Games, 24 teams of two players will take part in a total of 108 matches to determine who will win the two gold medals that are up for grabs.
Set at Horse Guards Parade, the home of the traditional Trooping the Colour celebration, Beach Volleyball is one of the few events to be held in Central London.
Beach Volleyball at the Olympic Games
Since volleyball's introduction to the Olympic Games, the United States, Brazil and Australia are the only nations to have won gold medals in the discipline.
In the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the United States dominated, winning both gold medals. Brazil secured silver and bronze in the men's competition, while China repeated that feat in the women's event.
