London 2012 Olympic Games: Triathlon

Don't miss the Olympic Triathlon in scenic Hyde Park.

Triathlon at London 2012

Watch as competitors compete in a gruelling triathlon schedule, which includes swimming, cycling and running – all in the stunning surrounds of London's Hyde Park.

A relatively new sport in the Olympic schedule, having been added in 2000, the triathlon is an exciting sport to watch, as athletes are tested to the limits in a variety of disciplines.

The competition is made up of a 1,500m swim, 40k cycle ride and a 10k run – with every second crucial to the competitors' chances of gaining gold.

Triathlon at the Olympic Games

Antipodean countries have dominated the triathlon since its inception at the Olympics.

Following a silver medal win in 2000, Australia won two of the six medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, while New Zealand picked up one. In 2004, New Zealand won a gold and a silver, and Australia added a silver medal to their tally.

The home team, Great Britain, is yet to pick up a medal in the discipline at the Olympic Games, something they'll want to put right in August 2012.
