Synchronised Swimming at London 2012
Watch synchronised swimming, a mix between swimming and dance performance, at the brand-new Aquatics Centre during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The sport involves pairs or teams of eight of competitors (women only), who perform a routine to music. They are judged on the technical difficulty of the performance and on artistic impression.
Synchronised Swimming is one of four aquatic sports, the others being water polo, diving and swimming.
Synchronised Swimming at the Olympic Games
Russia has dominated Swimming in recent years. The nation won both the team and duet gold medals at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the previous Olympic Games in Athens.
Spain's teams were runners-up in both competitions in 2008, while the Japanese secured both silver medals in 2004.
