Diamond Jubilee: 60 Years as Queen
The Queen came to the throne on 6 February 1952 but her official Coronation didn't take place until 2 June 1953.
The Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of the Queen's reign. The Queen is the only British Monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee, other than Queen Victoria in 1897.
The Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002.
Greenwich to Become a Royal Borough

As part of the Jubilee celebrations, Greenwich is being made a royal borough.
Being given royal borough status is a rare event and there are only three other royal boroughs in London:
- Kensington & Chelsea
- Windsor & Maidenhead
- Kingston-upon-Thames
The title is being granted to Greenwich in recognition of the close links between Greenwich and the monarchy and Greenwich's global significance as a World Heritage Site.
Other important rewards and titles awarded during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations include:
- The Diamond Jubilee Medal
- Civic Honours: towns can apply to become a city
- Lord Mayoralty: granted to cities by the Queen
