It's 1955 and Marilyn and Ella are both at the top of their game – but neither is truly happy. Marilyn craves Ella's artistic integrity; Ella yearns for Marilyn's silver screen success.

To achieve her goal, Ella needs to sing in front of Hollywood's movers and shakers at the Mocambo club. And it runs a strictly whites-only policy – until the influential Marilyn pulls some strings to help her friend.
