The Pitmen Painters returns to London's National Theatre following a sell-out run last year.
The Pitmen Painters in London
The Pitmen Painters is the true story of the Ashington Group, a group of miners from Northumberland who became celebrated painters.
The pitmen hired a lecturer to teach them art appreciation, but soon moved from theory to practice and began to paint.
Within a few years, the miners were established artists. They made friends in the art world and sold their paintings to prestigious collectors.
But every day they continued to work, as before, down the mine.
The Pitmen Painters at the National Theatre

The Pitmen Painters takes a humorous look at art, class and politics.
It is the latest offering from playwright Lee Hall, who is best known for writing the screenplay for Billy Elliot.
The Pitmen Painters returns to the National Theatre by popular demand, following a sell-out run in 2008.
