James Hamilton presents a talk at Tate Britain Auditorium. In 1819 Turner undertook an exploration of the Vatican Museum, making hundreds of drawings of classical remains and sarcophagi therein. Dr. James Hamilton, author of Turner: A Life of Discovery, examines the purposes of these studies, Turners interest in the perspectival tricks of Vatican architecture, and his pursuit of Raphael.
