Tudor and Stuart London

This course follows on from John Shepherd's course on the history of Roman London, 2007-8 and of mediaeval London 2008-9. Modern London began under the Tudors and Stuarts. The city became Europe's largest metropolis, with distinct east and west ends. The course charts the transformation of London and its environs, showing how its financial institutions, theatres and coffee-houses thrived despite plague, violence and religious upheaval. The tutor is Paul Hunneyball.
